Crystal Clay & Game of Thrones - Part 10, House Reed

House Reed! Home of the crannogmen, Jojen and Meera, and the mysterious Howland Reed who clearly knows everything because he's been inexplicably hiding for five books now. I'm just waiting for him to wander out and spill all his secrets... because he clearly knows a thing or two about certain characters.

Lots of woven stuff for this blog post. I wanted things to look rough so I used cord and natural colours... the Reeds live in a swamp, after all.

The widest bracelet you see here took a whopping 5 days... a lot of weaving went into this. The pattern itself is simple but the interlocking beads are tiny. I could have finished this bracelet in 2 or 3 days but I beaded while watching the Walking Dead, so....

I used a mother-of-pearl button for closure, and two-hole beads with a "Jet Iris Brown" finish (I have NO idea what this means. I'm a brown or green kind of girl....fancy colour names mean nothing to me).

ADMIRE THE INTRICACY. DO IT.
MORE INTRICACY. :p

Next is a bezel that I embedded with crystal clay (brown). I stamped and pigmented the clay with gold powder, then pressed in a crocodile charm. I attached the bezel to cord which I then wove with gold cats-eye beads. I decided to add some leaf charms to the end, because 1) it needed some flair, and 2) Jojen and Meera plan to lead Bran to the great and mysterious Weirwood Tree. Yeah, THE tree.

This bracelet turned out way better than I thought it would. Then again, I am starting to overthink these posts a little bit.

The last set is a pair of arrow earrings (for Meera) and a wonky kind of woven cord bracelet with uneven mismatched beads. I added some solid faceted dark green beads. More crocodile motifs and rough detail.

Anyways... this all took a long time. My fingers and eyes hurt. But I hope you liked it! My previous posts in the Game of Thrones jewellery series can be seen below.

And with that... onwards to the finale!!!!

Crystal Clay & Game of Thrones - Part 9, House Dorne

Well that was quite the hiatus... I admit I was very burned out from doing those posts once a week, and I didn't think my post for House Baelish was quite up to par. It takes a really, really long time to make the jewellery for these posts!

So I decided to take a creative break (and I finished the first draft of my novel). It was much needed, and I return quite refreshed. :)

My favourite item of these Dorne-inspired pieces is the bracelet. I used a woven cord technique that I just learned to make a pattern of tiny off-white beads mixed with fiery glass beads. I used tiny white beads in a tube shape so that it would look like snakeskin.

The bracelet wraps around the wrist twice, and of course, I embedded the sun of Dorne into orange crystal clay. I pigmented the clay with gold powder and also stamped in a swirly pattern. Feel free to click on the photos for a closeup. That is, if you don't mind my scrawny hand. ;)

I'm quite proud of this bracelet! It took several days to plan and execute.

Now is it just me or is Pedro Pascal amazingly super awesome???? And Indira Varma equally so? What a pair! They practically set fire to the screen.

I'd ramble on some more about them, but uh... spoilers. All I'm gonna say is, avid book-reader that I am, a small part of me wishes for a radical change that is NOT faithful to the books at all. I know it won't happen, but... but...

Anyways, I also made two necklaces. The rectangular one is more intricate. Again, I stamped the clay myself. I also decided to embed a few watch parts. Obviously Game of Thrones isn't steampunk, but I couldn't resist a few gears. I mean, they have them in the opening credits, right?

The second necklace I wasn't too sure of, but I am actually quite fond of it now. I had a tiny spear I tried to embed into the clay too, but I ran out of room. Booo.

I hope you liked these! I sure did. Next up should be House Reed.

Crystal Clay & Game of Thrones - Part 8, House Baelish

Sooo I took one of those online "Which House would you be on Game of Thrones" quizzes, and I got House Baelish!!! Not gonna lie, I was pretty happy about that one.

Ah, Petyr, Petyr. What are you thinking? What are you planning. What do you want? 5 books and 4 seasons later and I still don't know, you sly devil you.

I think he just wants to be supreme puppet-master over everyone. And what's up with Sansa? Will we ever get his reaction to the Red Wedding, due to the death of a certain character? Book or show?

SO MANY QUESTIONS. Not enough jewellery!

I kept it simple for this post. Just a necklace and earring set. It's hard to find a bird charm that isn't all cutesy. I ended up making the bird from a silicone mold, clay, and some paint/Gilder's Paste. The flower, and the rectangle beads on the earrings were also made from clay and painted by me.

I put in hints of purple (for Sansa) and I decided to go with the black/grey colours. I also added the flower because it reminded me of her.

Actually, when I was looking up pictures of House Baelish, I was surprised to remember that their sigil is a Titan, not a mockingbird, the colours are green and tan? Hmmm.... I can see why Littlefinger goes with the mockingbird. Much better!

Still not sure about what House I'll do next week. I have a lot of ideas for House Reed, Mormont, Arryn, Martell, and many more. I also have plans for making some clay dragon eggs. Ahhhh. Too many ideas. Not enough time!

Crystal Clay & Game of Thrones - Part 7, House Baratheon I

I meant to post this on Sunday but I was experiencing some designers-block.... I think the delay was worth it, because I was incredibly happy with how these pieces turned out!

This week features House Baratheon.... admittedly, I have no idea how the family will fare by the time 'A Dream of Spring' rolls around, but I'm a Gendry fan.

I've decided to break up House Baratheon into three... it was always so interesting how each bother (Stannis, Robert, Renly) had their own spin on the sigil so I'm going to save Renly and Stannis for their own posts.

Robert comes first. My favourite line from the show: "You got fat". I know, I know... there are better ones.

Anyways, I thought I'd let the pictures speak for themselves on this one. Just know that I sculpted, stamped, pigmented and embellished the clay and put it all together myself. :) And it was great fun, as always. Enjoy:

Can I also say that I like all the Baratheons much better on HBO's show than in the books? (Probably because I love the actors who play them). Thank you, Nina Gold, for your wonderful casting.

Crystal Clay & Game of Thrones - Part 6: House Greyjoy

Season 4 of Game of Thrones premieres tonight!!!! Time for popcorn! Swords! Red Viper!

... And time to continue my Game of Thrones-inspired handmade jewellery series. Here's hoping I can manage one blog post per episode.

So what's on the menu for today? KRAKEN of course. Reek/Theon's storyline and character arc for A Dance with Dragons was one of my favourite parts of the book. House Greyjoy was always a secret favourite of mine - Asha, please, please, survive until the end. Here's hoping Season 4 gives her some cool stuff to do (like kick Ramsay Snow's ass). As much as I love the books, I like it when the show creates new material - gives me something to be surprised by.

I used black clay embedded with solid black Czech Preciosa crystals, to recall Pyke's dark and stony shores. I used a mix of wood beads and dull gold freshwater pearls to recall the sea, and ships.

And of course, an octopus. I know it's not a kraken - point me towards any kraken charms you can find - but I found this charm more aesthetically pleasing.

I pieced the bracelet together using scrap chain and random beads that I had lying around... my one criticism: not enough black! But I wanted a cobbled-together, rough and wild look.

Did I pay the Iron Price??? Not really. My cat tried to play with the necklace and I didn't let her, if that counts.

Which house should I do next week? Feel welcome to sound off in the comments.
